While I grow Up to Be a Mom of a Teenage Girl

While I grow up to be a Mom of a teenage girl in few years, I keep a diary of so many things. Gone are the days of sleepless nights, waking up at short intervals, sniffing like a little puppy all over her, worrying about her milk ounces after each feed or chasing my imaginative skills to create a new species in my tales every day. With each day, she was finding these tales irrational and illogical as common sense and reasonable thoughts dismissed all my fantastical ideas, characters and stories. I knew she was crawling into another world, the real world, the world of grown-ups.

The little red beaked bird with golden feathers and a silver bill would have no existence now. The tiny puppy with two soft wings would be a mother’s tale and “Tooth fairy” never enters her room while she slept. Santa does not exist in her world now, the sweet old man never wrote that pink note, yes, her parents did, they even tucked one in her pillow safely last Christmas.

I was happy she was growing, but then now those golden beaked birds were mere sketches in her drawing book, the puppy did have wings in her “story telling session” at school and this Christmas she would tell her little brother “Be a good boy, otherwise Santa will not gift you with the best toy.”

The real world had lots of real stories, the if’s and buts, do’s and don’ts, the logic and rationale …yes as a mother, I re-wrote my diary with my new quotes
“This world is a real place; there are no Angels with a magic wand.”
“Fight for your right, the Fairy Godmother would not cast her magic spell for you.”
“Learn to speak for yourself, silence was considered golden once upon a time.”
“Trust all but aliens do exists amongst us.”
“The dark night had all the twinkling stars, the moon too sang lullabies but there could be a small little rusty demon hiding around the dark bush here on the ground, carefully tread on.”

This is going to be another world, contrary to the world I weaved for you; demons and beasts veil themselves here but there might be a Santa amidst all peeping from that window. He might not have a red cap this time, the golden winged Angel might be barren but she may carry a heart of gold, spot her in the crowd. And there might be a Fairy without a real wand but you still can dream of a beautiful world my little girl…just keep your eyes open this time while dreaming, because “A whole new world” waits for you dear…The real world.
