Learning Through Travelling

The world is a book and those who don’t travel read only one page – Saint Augustine

Travelling opens our eyes to a new world which we’ve never seen before. We become what we read and see. Travelling is very essential for each kid as it helps them in getting experiential learning. We are very lucky to have taken birth in a country with such a diverse culture. North India is quite different from what we see in the South or the East of India. If a kid born in North India will be taken to the South or East India he will be surprised to learn the pleasant weather in the month of June and July as well. Similarly, if the kid from South India comes to North India he can enjoy the vast mountain range of the Himalayas and desert in Rajasthan. They will be happy to know more about our National capital Delhi. The Konkan green belt can melt anybody’s heart in the Western part of India

With travelling kids get exposure to a varied culture which creates curiosity in the young minds to know the history of the place. Travelling is the best way to make history interesting for kids.

We recently attended a family function at National Dairy Research Institute of Haryana. That Dairy hosts more than 10,000 cattle’s and it was a really amazing experience for kids as well as adults to see such organized milking and milk product processing . All cattle’s were numbered and work in an organized way to give their milk twice a day. Cow and Buffalos were treated as royal prince and princess of the Research Center. We never expected that family function hosted at auditorium of government organization will help us in such an exhaustive learning about cattle’s.

Travelling with young children is also helpful for their wholesome growth. It’s my personal observation that kids who travel always with parents are more extrovert and enjoy new people company in comparison to kids who stay back at home when their parents travel.

  • Kids as young as 3 months are fit for travel with their parents. As scientist says 75% of brain develops in first 5 year of your life so it’s most crucial element to give your kids expose of travelling. It need not be an exotic trip to faraway location. Simple trip to nearby hill station or beach will be equally pleasant for kid.
  • Travelling in different region or different country makes kids realize that their language is one of many language used in this world and it’s good to learn another language as well. Different country cartoons also help in generating interest in learning a different language. My daughter loves to watch Dora and as Dora speaks Spanish so she has also learnt lot of Spanish words. She wants to visit Dora’s native land soon.
  • Life is all about experiences – There is well known research that material possessions give you momentary or very short lived happiness, however experiences gives you lifetime memories and happiness.

Writing this post reminds me of the movie – Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. I truly agree with the movie’s sentiments of living your life to fullest and accumulating different experiences. So where are you taking your kids in this summer break J
